Krypton was the home planet of the Kryptonian race.[1] It orbited a red sun, Rao,[2] which exploded, destroying the planet.[3]
History[]
Early history[]
Krypton was governed by the Kryptonian High Council.[4]
Over the course of Krypton's history, the planet colonized the planet Daxam.[3]
Metron entered into a technology exchange with Krypton,[5] and stored his acquisitions in his Infinity Vault, including some Kryptonite and the last known Phantom Zone Projector.[6]
General Dru-Zod attempted a coup against the Kryptonian government due to his disagreement over their relations with New Genesis.[7] Thanks to Jor-El and Zor-El, the coup failed and Zod and his followers were sent to the Phantom Zone.[6]
In 1978,[8] the planet was destroyed when its home star, Rao, exploded.[2] Jor-El predicted the disaster, but no one believed him. The only person he could save was his infant son, Kal-El, later known as Superman, who he sent to Earth.[9]

Superman regretted that he forgot to ask the Collector of Worlds whether anything from Krypton was preserved.[1]

Background information[]
The planet Krypton is the home of Superman and all other Kryptonians. The doomed planet was destroyed by a natural disaster, and Kal-El was thought to be the only survivor. Later, it was revealed that other Kryptonians survived as well, either in the Phantom Zone (a pocket dimension prison) or the bottle city of Kandor (shrunk by Brainiac). The Kandorians eventually rebuilt the planet, in the Silver Age as Rokyn, and in the modern age as New Krypton.
